PERTH SKYSHOW: The best place to watch.

The best place to watch in 2015: further upriver than normal, further east, towards Burswood, due to construction work at Elizabeth Quay. The fireworks barges have been repositioned.

I visited preparations at South Perth today and met with the organiser, Peter Raoen. Key theme is more Fantasy. The water slides are spectacular. It's looking good for yet another "best ever" event.

Once again I’ll be volunteering and will have lots of photos for you.

[Later] Here’s a Facebook album of Australia Day 2015 and the wonderful volunteers http://is.gd/5MGQNE

Please Forward or Share this widely.

I’d rather see the money spent on saving the river Peter..............

Could have a lot of riverside vegetation planted for cost of the fireworks ,the Swan River is dying, slowly dying.

We have only been here for 185 years, not long out of a minimum of 2.8 million years ( end of Tertiary ) .

Spend you considerable energies on more worthwhile efforts than frivolous entertainment of masses.
Maybe a better example is the $1.2B stadium , could have bought up farming properties along the upper reaches of Avon , now that would make a difference.
Be a better investment too.

cheers
Don

PS , my GG grandfather came out with Peel in the “Gilmore” 1829..

To a degree I agree with Don Kidson's comments - it is sad that we celebrate our country one day a year with what is pretty frivolous entertainment.
I live on Canning Highway in South Perth and we have large gume trees nearby - when the fireworks start are iconic cockatoos and galahs freak out and end up in those trees squarking till well after the fireworks have finished.
I don't bother to watch the show - in fact I do my best to keep well clear of it.
I would prefer we plant trees rather than buy plastic flags made overseas.
There is also no doubt the day is offensive to many of our country's first peoples.
However, on the plus side, I add :
1. The loutish boganistic behaviour that was an integral part of Oz day only a few years ago has greatly decreased.
2. The amount of rubbish left along the river and through South Perth has also markedly decreased - anyone who thinks they can celebrate by treating our land as a rubbish dump needs to think very hard indeed.
3. Kids love the fireworks, and stuff that makes kids happy and smile is pretty cool, even old kids!
However, fireworks are getting a bit old hat.
What about some barges with water fountains, where the fountain height etc varies in time with synchronised laser lights and music.
It would look magical.
The barges could for the rest of the year be moved to parts of the river needing oxygenation so the day's ce;ebration had a year round benefit to the beautiful river around which Perth was first built.

celebrations are nice to have, but a clean environment is way more important wouldn't you think!
